Know Your Skin Types and Skincare Products Now

How important is it to ensure the right choice of any skincare products for your skin type?

If your skincare product is not the right one for your skin type it is not just about efficacy, it can aggravate your existing skin conditions, or even cause new ones. Therefore, when you are getting a suitable skincare product, whether it is a moisturizer, a cleanser or any other products for your skin, it is essential that you know your skin type.

The type of skin you have depends on the amount of oil in your skin. If it is out of balance your skin will show signs of suffering. Too much or too little oil (or sebum secreted from your skin) will have different sets of skin issues. If your skin has too much oil you may be more prone to acne outbreaks, and if oil is under production your skin will dry up and look visibly flaky and prone to facial lines.

Many of us are confused between dry skin type and dehydrated skin. Dryness and dehydration may look (and even) feel similar, but they are two very different conditions. Dry skin results from too little oil for the skin, while dehydrated skin is due to a lack of water. You may have an oily skin type but dehydrated at the same time. Skin dehydration is a very common skin condition especially among people with oily skin type.

Another common misdiagnosis is the causes of dilated pores. Dilated or enlarged pores can be caused by skin oiliness or because of aging or saggy skin conditions.

Do take note that your skin type may change due to environmental, biological and physiological factors like climatic, stress, diet, age, hormones as well as health-related issues.

With the above said, it is not uncommon that many consumers may end up buying the wrong skincare products for their skin needs. It is very important to know your skin type and conditions before you make the decision to purchase the products.
